Oldsmobile 1951 – 1954

This is part of my collection of ads from 1951 to 1954. These years are significant for development of stronger engines and more electrical options.

Eight cylinder V8 engines increased in popularity. Power steering became an option in some models in 1953. Power brakes were added to the options list at approximately the same time body shapes were modernized too.

Starting in 1949 fenders became integrated part of the body and were advertised as the ‘Style of Tomorrow ‘. Not surprisingly the old fender type styling became outdated and customers wanted to own a car with the new style.

1953 was GM’s 50’s anniversary. Among many new models exhibited at the Motorama in New York that year was also the Oldsmobile Fiesta showing styling features soon to come to the lower priced cars: That were, among others, dual tone colors and the wrap around windshield.
